Europe Jazz Media Chart, January 2017

One of the earliest initiatives of EJM is the Europe Jazz Media Chart: a non-sales-related chart that reveals some of the hot new music surfacing across the globe right now. Some contributors also add their comments, explaining their choice.
We welcome two new EJM Chart contributors, French publication Citizen Jazz and Portuguese outlet, Jazz.Pt!

Mike Flynn , Jazzwise (UK):

Led Bib «Umbrella Weather» (RareNoiseRecords)

buy in iTunes | live на YouTube

Mike Flynn comments:
Led Bib are one of the great bands to emerge from the UK in the last decade and have made a really strong come back album. They’re also playing a ton of tour dates so very much back in action.

Anna Filipieva, Jazz.Ru (Russia):

Arsenal «Live in Tallinn’74» (ArtBeat Music)

Collectible vinyl LP + CD | NEW: Jazz.Ru Podcast with two tracks from the album, by Cyril Moshkow

Anna Filipieva comments:
This unique live recording of a 1974 performance was miraculously preserved in Tallinn, where saxophonist Alexey Kozlov played with his Moscow-based jazz-rock group Arsenal. This is a limited, collectible edition, but its significance as of a curious document from the Soviet jazz history cannot be underestimated.

Paweł Brodowski, Jazz Forum (Poland):

Kamil Piotrowicz Sextet «Popular Music» (Hevhetia)

buy in iTunes | listen on SoundCloud | album trailer on YouTube | listen on Yandex.Music

Paweł Brodowski comments:
The second outing on the Slovak label Hevhetia of the young Polish pianist and visionary composer Kamil Piotrowicz with his incredible sextet playing original music reminiscent somewhat of the ’60s avant garde scores of Krzysztof Komeda.
