Europe Jazz Media Chart, August 2016

One of the earliest initiatives of EJM is the Europe Jazz Media Chart: a non-sales-related chart that reveals some of the hot new music surfacing across the globe right now. Some contributors also add their comments, explaining their choice.

Mike Flynn, Jazzwise (UK):

Tori Freestone Trio «El barranco» (Whirlwind Recordings)

listen on Yandex.Music | buy on label’s website

COVER
Anna Filipieva, Jazz.Ru (Russia):

Bill Evans «Some Other Time: The Lost Session From The Black Forest» (Resonance Records)

buy in iTunes | buy on Amazon | album trailer on YouTube | buy on label’s website

Jazz.Ru Magazine comments:

Previosly unknown, these trio recordings of the great pianist sat in the studio owner’s strongbox in Schwarzwald since they were made in 1968. A new Bill Evans Trio is a sensation… though a rather quiet one, as it’s still Bill Evans.

COVER
Paweł Brodowski, Jazz Forum (Poland):

Katarzyna Borek «Space In Between» (Bitt 005)

buy on artist’s website | listen on SoundCloud | album trailer on YouTube | buy on Bandcamp (track fragments preview available)

Paweł Brodowski comments:

Katarzyna Borek is a young classical Polish pianist working her way to the jazz orbit. Her newest solo album is unique, it has no precedence.
She took the works of 20th centrury composers (including Manuel de Falla, Joaquin Rodrigo, John Cage, Arvo Paert, Craig Armstrong) enriching them with the sounds from space (registered by Voyager sent into space ba NASA in 1977).

COVER
Jan Granlie, Salt Peanuts (Norway):
